Village of Ortonville Accepting Applications for Village Board Vacancy

Are you interested in serving the community by being a member of the Village of Ortonville Village Council? The Village of Ortonville is currently accepting applications for Village Trustee. Letters of interest and resumes will be accepted by the application deadline of February 24, 2023. All applicants will be asked to appear for an interview with the Village Council at a date and time to be determined.

In an effort to move forward with a full seven-member Board, the vacant seat will be filled by appointment to the Village Council in accordance with Michigan Statutes and the Village Charter. The partial term of appointment will expire in November 2024.

Any interested Village of Ortonville resident, who is a minimum of 18 years old and a legal citizen of the United States, is hereby welcome to submit a letter of interest and resume to be considered for appointment to the Village Council. Please submit your letter and resume, no later than February 24, 2023, to Village Manager Ryan Madis, at 476 Mill St, PO Box 928, Ortonville, MI 48462, or [email protected]. The Village Office drop box may be utilized for after-hours submissions.

About the Village Council

Village Council members make policy decisions, enact laws, approve an annual budget and act for the overall benefit and best interest of the Village. Regular Village Council meetings are held on the fourth Mondays of each month starting at 7pm., and committee and special meetings are scheduled as needed. Village Council Trustees receive a small stipend for each meeting, as well as paid training.

 

Appointment Process

The Village Council will conduct interviews of interested candidates at a determined meeting time. The appointment procedure will be as follows:

  • The appointment process will be held in Open Session.
  • Candidates will be interviewed by the Village Council, with members will take turns asking questions of the interested persons.
  • The Village Council will vote upon the appointment in Open Session.
  • The appointee will be seated at the regular Village Council meeting immediately following appointment.
