Winter Roads
Once again this year there have been rumors of a salt shortage. The Village is prepared for this winter. Two hundred tons have already been delivered to the DPW Complex with an additional 100 tons available to us should we need it.
Streetlights
DTE now has an online street light trouble reporting system and we now have the ability to report light outages directly to DTE from the office. If you notice a streetlight that is out, please call the office 248-627-4976. If you are able, it would help us greatly to have the pole number, which is located on the each wooden pole. If you notice after a few weeks that the light has not been repaired, please contact the office again and we will be able to check the status.
Christmas in the Village

Once again Christmas in the Village was held the first weekend in December. Many activities were planned and held in thedowntown area, with the parade starting at 3:00 p.m. this year and was well attended. Activities including festive hayrides, children’s activities and crafts, music and dancing was held throughout the day following the parade. Several crafters and merchants offered their wares for sale in town, in the Old Town Hall and at the local churches. The Old Mill, Masonic Lodge and Ortonville United Methodist Church offered food to those who ventured to town. The celebration ended at the Lighting of the Christmas Tree at 5:45 p.m. by the Old Town Hall lead by the Village Manager, Ed Coy.
Christmas Decorations
The DPW staff, Bill Prince and Kevin Booms, worked hard at getting all of the Village Christmas decorations in place for this celebration. Even with two snow events, they managed to complete all of the decorations in time for the December 6, 2008 celebration. They did a great job and due to their efforts, the Village received an award of an evergreen wreath for the holiday decorations on the Old Town Hall. The wreath is now proudly displayed above the door on the front of the Old Town Hall. Congratulations to Kevin and Bill for a job well done!
Luminaries
Lighting of the Luminaries has been a long-standing tradition in the Village on Christmas Eve. The Village Council will be assembling luminaries on Christmas Eve at 9:00 a.m. at the DPW Complex on Cedar Street to continue this tradition. The Village Council will be lining Mill, Church, South, James, Schoolhouse, and Edwards streets with luminaries and is requesting that residents on these streets take a few moments on Christmas eve at 5:30 p.m. to light the luminaries, and to also pick up the luminaries and dispose of them promptly after Christmas. Residents wishing to line their own street should also call the Village office by December 15th with the number of luminaries you would like to pick up. The luminaries will be available at the DPW complex on Cedar Street from 9:00 to 11:00 AM on the morning of December 24, 2008.
Audit
The Village has received the formal report from Lewis & Knopf regarding the 2007-2008Village Audit. We received a formal report from the auditors. This year’s audit was very clean with material weaknesses and no significant deficiencies. This was the best audit we have had in many years thanks to the front office staff, Larry, Julie and Diana.
Master Plan
The Village has received the Master Plan from McKenna Associates and has a hard copy of the plan available for anyone to see at the Village Office. A PDF version is also available online under the Master Plan heading on this website, or by clicking on the link below.
